Find silences

Find long pauses and silences so you can tighten pacing.

Use Find Silences to locate pauses and decide which ones should be removed or shortened.

This guide covers

  • Finding all pauses, pauses longer than 1 second, or pauses longer than 3 seconds.

  • Including untranscribed sounds such as coughing or murmuring.

  • Using SafeCut to avoid results that may sound abrupt.

  • Keeping natural pauses when they help the conversation breathe.

Steps

  1. Open a project in the editor.

  2. Click AI Tools.

  3. Choose Find Silences.

  4. Choose the silence length you want to search for.

  5. Turn on Include untranscribed content if you want to find pauses around non-speech sounds.

  6. Review each highlighted pause.

  7. Delete or shorten only the pauses that make the edit better.

Good to know

  • Short-form social clips usually need tighter pacing than interviews, stories, or podcasts.

  • Very aggressive silence removal can make speech feel unnatural.

  • SafeCut checks nearby silence to help avoid edits that sound abrupt.

If something goes wrong

  • If no silences appear, try a shorter threshold or wait for audio analysis to finish.
